The Friends Church is located on Route 202 near Windham Center. The present meetinghouse was built in 1849.
The Society of Friends, or Quakers, were the second religious society formed in Windham. The Quaker church was established in 1774.
During the Civil War, the Society of Friends were active in helping slaves to escape to Canada. The area known as "Popeville" on Pope Road had several homes designated as "stations" on the Underground Railroad.
